How to take back control of your life, when every day feels like a daily grind

We’re not here to go through the motions day in and day out. We’re not machines and if we don’t nurture our souls, we can become depressed, anxious, and a host of other bad feelings start to flood our system. Life is not to be lived at retirement, or when the kids are a little older, or when you have more money, or when you have more time, it’s right now.

And that’s the fundamental mistake we all make. We’re always waiting for something, to start something. And we don’t realise that the only time to start something is right now.

I meet many women of all different ages every week in consultations, and the biggest regret I hear most, is that they waited so long. When you do wait until the kids are older/ you’ve more money/you’ve more time, you know what your next problem is? Your confidence is at rock bottom because you left it so long to take care of yourself.

Taking care of yourself and having enjoyment in every day is really important to your well being. Life is supposed to be fun, filled with the joys of nature, loving deep relationships, and a sense of fulfilment.

When this is out of kilter, you feel bad. It only take me a week of working too much, before I get really cranky and upset with the world. Ever feel like ‘What’s it all about’? That’s your brain telling you you’re out of sync. You’re doing too much of one thing and not the other stuff.

I’v a simple format that I use, and I use it every single week day .

I wake up earlier than I have to. This starts me off in control of the day, and puts me in better form immediately.

I grab my journal, write three things I’m grateful for, three things i’m focused on, what my workout will be for the day, and the mental focus I am focused on.

I won’t do a major workout every day, but I’ll write down walk in fresh air, or playing with kids as my active rest.

I make sure to go get a coffee and a read of the newspaper every day. Life’s little joys every day are really important to your soul.

I eat really clean during the week. No processed foods, or biscuits, cakes etc. I only feel bad, cranky and off track.  Not to mention hoe much sweeter the weekend is when you’ve bene so good!

I try to make sure that holidays aside, I stay the same in my clothes. I hate to fluctuate. I wear jeans most days and they’re great at letting you know when your portion sizes are getting a little out of control.

I drink two litres of water every day, and when I do workout, I do interval training with resistance training. (best for mood and results).

I read a novel before bed, I always go to the Charts in Easons, to make sure I get a good one, and I listen to personal development stuff when I’m in car or running. (Tony Robbins, I’m such a hug fan of).

Little pockets of time, throughout the day enables me to do all this. It’s not one big grand gesture, it’s a lifestyle choice.

I don’t have much time to myself. Im working or I’m with my 3 and 4 year old. Life is really busy at the moment, I love it and I’m so grateful, but if I let these things above drop, I start to get frustrated again.

Hope you find help in this,

Jessica X
