Today, I’ve got a short but powerful episode for you, and it’s especially for those of you who feel like you’re constantly going around in circles with getting fit and healthy.

You know that circular feeling, don’t you? Where no matter how hard you try, or what you do, you always seem to end up back at square one?

Well, I know exactly why you end up back at square one.

How?

Because I spent 20 years in the same loop!

Over and over again, I’d start fresh every Monday, determined to make it work this time. Yet by the end of the week, I was back where I started, feeling frustrated, defeated, and wondering what went wrong. It wasn’t until I finally figured out why this was happening that everything changed for me.

From that point, becoming fit and healthy became not just possible but easy.

The House Analogy: Why You Need Strong Foundations

Let me explain this using an analogy that I share with everyone in my Thrive Coaching Program: the analogy of the house.

You cannot build a house on shaky foundations. If the base of your house is unstable, no matter how beautifully you construct the walls and roof, it’s going to crumble. It simply won’t be able to withstand the storms.

In the same way, your healthy habits are like that house. You can’t build lasting habits when your foundations—your mental and emotional state—are shaky. If stress, overwhelm, an all-or-nothing mindset, lack of self-belief, and fear of failure are at your core, sticking with healthy habits becomes 100% impossible.

The Distraction of Diets and Quick Fixes

Here’s what I see time and time again: people focusing on dieting, calorie counting, weighing themselves, obsessing over recipes, and jumping on every new food trend—gluten-free this, sugar-free that. They’re attending weight loss clubs, following restrictive diets, and doing gruelling workouts.

All of these things are distractions, keeping them busy but never solving the real problem.

It’s like putting blinkers on a horse—keeping you focused on the superficial things, but missing what’s really going on underneath.

So many people wake up on a Monday morning, full of determination after a weekend they consider a “disaster.”

They say to themselves, "This time I’m going to try even harder!" They push themselves, stay in the zone, obsess over carb-free chicken recipes, and restrict themselves to no end.

But by Wednesday, motivation is waning. Something happens—a slip-up, a comment from someone—and the whole effort spirals out of control. Suddenly, it’s back to square one. And the cycle repeats itself the next Monday.

Stop Hacking at the Leaves—Dig Out the Roots

This way of living is what keeps you stuck. It’s like hacking away at the leaves of a plant, hoping that’ll make it stop growing. But what you really need to do is dig out the roots. You’ve got to focus on what’s underneath—on those shaky foundations.

If your life is filled with stress and overwhelm, if you’re stuck in an all-or-nothing mindset, or if you’re struggling with self-belief, how can you expect to maintain healthy habits? You have to address those root causes first.

Building Solid Foundations: Stress, Self-Belief, and the Inner Critic

It’s about making your foundations solid. Focus on reducing your stress, letting go of that all-or-nothing mindset, and quietening that negative inner critic. You need to find ways to calm and centre yourself even when life around you feels chaotic.

When you do this, everything changes. Suddenly, healthy habits become simple and easy. You become fit and healthy—you don’t have to force it.

Just look at some of the spiritual teachers like Eckhart Tolle or Michael Singer. They’re not trying to eat healthy, they are healthy, because they’re whole on the inside.

I spent years chasing every diet under the sun, thinking that was the answer. But really, what I needed was to reduce my stress and overwhelm.

You Can’t Build on Shaky Foundations

If you’re stuck in that cycle, trying to build healthy habits without addressing the underlying issues, you’ll keep finding yourself back at square one. You can’t build your house on shaky foundations. It will crumble every time.

Healthy habits aren’t sustainable when you’re constantly stressed, overwhelmed, and stuck in perfectionism. So, what do you do? You work on your foundations while implementing healthy habits.

This is exactly what we do in my Thrive Coaching Program. We work on letting go of limiting beliefs and the stories that keep us stuck. And over time, you’ll start to see a shift.

You’ll move from "I always fail." to "What if I can do this?" and eventually to "I feel like I’m succeeding!".

You’ll develop a more balanced approach, moving away from all-or-nothing thinking. Instead of turning to food or alcohol for comfort, you’ll learn tools to centre yourself, giving you that inner calm to return to when things get tough.

Making Healthy Habits Easy

This approach makes healthy habits easier to implement. Now, don’t get me wrong—you’re not going to be jumping for joy every time you do a workout, or thrilled to go for a walk in the rain. But those habits will become non-negotiable.

Eating healthy won’t be a chore—it’ll be about nourishment. And having a pizza or ice cream at the weekend? That’ll be something you enjoy with no guilt attached.

This is what I guarantee you if you trust me and work on your foundations while implementing the healthy habits. You’ll stop going around in circles, and everything will start to fall into place.

Final Thoughts

Remember, true, lasting change doesn’t come from quick fixes or rigid diets—it comes from building strong, steady foundations. By reducing stress, letting go of that all-or-nothing mindset, and cultivating self-belief, you’ll find that living a fit and healthy life becomes effortless. It’s not about trying harder; it’s about building from the inside out.

If you’re tired of going in circles and ready to create real, lasting transformation, start with your foundations. Trust yourself, and trust the process.
